Sur La Table Online Cooking Classes for Kids
Sur La Table is known as one of the best resources for everything kitchen, and not just random things – you can expect to get the best brands’ supplies for cooking, baking, grilling, and everything in between. Besides huge selection and frequent sales on kitchen supplies, Sur La Table goes deeper and hosts cooking classes for adults, kids, and cooks of all skill level. Unfortunately, coronavirus has altered that the same way it altered many things we took for granted. While in-person cooking classes are currently mostly on hold, there is always internet and online classes. A few locations are beginning to offer in-person classes again, but most are still hesitant to do so.
Sur La Table features some of the best chefs and encourages young and old cooks and bakers indulge in their passion and learn something new in the process. The company offers classes for different types of food and different levels of skill.
This is how it works:
There are a few classes to choose from each week. For example, you currently will find these menu options:
- Steak Night Cooking Class
- Chicken Dinner Cooking Class
- Baja Taco Cooking Class
- Chinese Takeout Cooking Class
Each of those classes has an assigned time in Eastern Time zone. All classes take place on Zoom and are assigned a password after purchasing. This means that you won’t just be following some pre-recorded directions, but will be able to interact live with your chef and will have a chance to ask questions as you go. Each class is $29 and you will have to purchase all the needed ingredients in advance.
While this week’s meals don’t seem very friendly for young kids, sometimes you can find classes geared towards the youngest of chefs. This week’s options might need adult help and supervision, but it is always possible to cook together. You would be surprised about the level of bonding that happens in the kitchen as kids and parents cook together!
All classes last 1.5 – 2 hours and offer relaxed and fun atmosphere whether it’s Sur La Table’s kitchen or your own. After signing up, you will receive a packet with ingredient list and a little prep work to get you ready for cooking when time comes. You will receive Zoom password 30 minutes before your class. You are encouraged to log in a bit earlier, because late people might not be let in to prevent chaos.
If something changes in your plans, make sure you cancel your sign up at least 48 in advance for a full refund. Less than 48 hours might not guarantee all your money back.
If you have a few little cooks on hand to entertain, you can book a private cooking event and let them enjoy some culinary delights at home or during a camp. If you sing up for Sur La Table email list, you can save $10 off $25, which is no small deal.
We are all in this together and all kids are going through summer that might be less exciting with closed pools and summer camps, so an online cooking class can be a kind of salvation many parents are looking for. Kids with older siblings can enjoy a cooking class without adult supervision, which gives a couple of hours of uninterrupted work for us, and that is totally worth $29!
If you think this is something your kids can enjoy, book early and have fun!
