Once you create an account for Macy’s Star Rewards, you will get 25% off your next purchase, so make it count!
2. Macy’s app
Download this free app and enjoy 25% off your first in-app purchase, so again, make it big this first time. The app is very helpful with Rewards Program management, credit card spending tracking, and price scanning - you can see online prices and compare them with in-store offers via tag scanning technology. The app is great for staying on top of sales, price alerts, and searching for outfits based on pictures you take.
3. Online purchase store pick-up
There are days when you know what you need, but don’t have time to shop in a store. This is when you order online and pick up in your local Macy’s. To make it irresistible, you will get 15-20% off your next order if placed in 30 days.
4. Semi-annual and monthly sales
There are two types of sales where real savings are at: monthly One Day Sale and semi-annual Friends and Family Sale. Given this, you should never shop on non-sale days, ever.
One Day Sale usually happens third week of each month and has lots of merchandised discounted or on clearance. You can stack applicable coupons for maximum savings. One Day Sale usually lasts for 48 hours, so there is time.
Family and Friends Sale takes place in December and April. During this sale you can and should enjoy savings of up to 30% across the board and 15-20% off select departments. What’s not to love?
5. Shopkick app for free gift cards
The app is free and the money is free too – you can earn cash just by walking though the store and scanning some tags. In Macy’s section of the app you will see all kinds of suggestions how to get “kicks”. Once you earn enough kicks from Macy’s and other retailers, you can cash them and get gift cards. Link your credit card to the app and invite friends to join for even faster rewards.
6. Avoid shipping fees
It costs $10.95 to get anything shipped from Macy’s, but there are ways to avoid it:
- All orders above $99 get free shipping. If you have to return something, take it back to your local store, don’t ship.
- Adding select beauty items to your order will also get you free shipping. You will get your shipping covered and will be able to enjoy a product. Some beauty supplies can be as low as $2.
- Pick up your online order in store for free.
7. Compare app and store prices
Use Macy’s app for this and never overpay, because some items in store can be more expensive than online or vice versa. Always scan the tag before going to the register and have your proof handy. You can also apply any coupons you find with the app for you store purchases.
8. Price adjustment
If you bought something and noticed that the price of it dropped in less than 10 days, show your receipt to customer service or call, and you will be refunded the difference. Lots of other retailers offer the same thing.
9. Rebates
Macy’s posts new rebates for online and in-store merchandise every month, so make sure you take advantage of these savings. Take a look at the listing and get what you need. Even if the item is on sale, rebates still apply. You will have to mail a form for in-store purchases and fill online form for electronic orders.
10. Free gifts with purchase
Beauty products often come with free gifts. Some luxury brands like Estee Lauder or Clinique will often award you with free beauty sampler kits and accessories for shopping. This way you will be able to try something new at no cost and get free shipping too.
11. Clearance tags
Clearance section is a treasure trove for best deals. It is very important to understand the tags in this section: yellow tags with price ending in 6 are final price and won’t go lower; blue tags with price ending at 3 will be discounted one more time. White tags haven’t been marked down yet, so hold off for a few more days or check with a kiosk if the price is different than listed.
12. Last Act section for brand names
Some stores don’t put designer brands in clearance, but Macy’s does, so start your shopping there. You can find GUESS, Nike, Levi’s, and more.
13. Discounted gift cards
Check out Raise or Gift Card Granny for discounted gift cards and save up to 10% off face value right away. Make sure you know if the gift card is good for just in-store, online, or both types of purchases.
14. Shop T.J. Maxx and Burlington’s first
Most of the brand name merchandise at those stores are simply unsold items from Macy’s and other higher-end department stores. It might be last season, discontinued lines, and overstocked items. It’s like shopping at Macy’s, just cheaper.
15. Super Sundays and after sales days
Super Sundays are days after big sales, when nothing is discounted, but you can get 10-20% off select items if you pay with Macy’s card or use WOW! Pass from flyers. If you don’t have any of those two, don’t shop on days after sales.
16. Macy’s credit card
If you know you are responsible credit card user and shop at Macy’s frequently, consider getting their card and receiving special pricing and discounts on Super Sundays. Keep in mind that interest is a killer on this card, so don’t ever forget to pay in time.
