DoorDash vs Food Apps. How to use DoorDash App

You probably didn't even realize that you can use your iPhone to get a meal delivered from any restaurant nearby.

You may be stuck at home for any number of reasons or just don't want to put on any clothes. No longer do you have to settle for just a pizza delivery. You may be in the mood for Texas barbecue o  Chinese food or something healthy and organic. You can now get it delivered to your door with an app in about just the same time as your average pizza delivery.

There are many cuisines and restaurant delivery apps come for iOS and android. You can order from fast food joints such as McDonald's or Taco Bell or your favorite chain restaurant such as BJ's restaurant and the Brewhouse or even California Pizza Kitchen.

If you really want a fine dining experience there are even premium restaurants that provide delivery service and can include wine, beer and mixed drinks.

Most of the food delivery services have free delivery with their first order and you can find special coupons in the app or your email to entice you to give them a try.

For most cities: DoorDash

Available in over 1200 cities in both the US and Canada, DoorDash is on both android and iOS and has the widest selection of local eateries and national chains with over 110,000 restaurant menus.

You will need to register with your first name, last name, email address, phone number and password. Put in your physical address and any extra instruction such as where to park.

Once you launch the DoorDash apps food page you will find an easy usable app with curated collections of restaurants. You can scroll to find all restaurant partners, from fast food chains to sit down restaurants all that encompass 30 cuisines. Please note though that there are not any premium restaurants represented on the food delivery app.

Once you open a restaurant page you can swipe for a carousel of popular items with a full menu underneath. You can tap the drinks button to get beer, wine and mixed drinks from any wine or liquor store. Some of these liquor establishments also offer food delivery but they are mostly snacks.

You can tap any item and it adds to your order. Once completed tap the view cart button and then the checkout button. You can pay with Apple pay to complete the order process.

DoorDash does not force order minimums and the services sometimes expensive especially since there is a higher price during busy times. If you're hungry though this is a great app for those that want real-time order tracking, fast delivery speed and a variety of food and drinks.

The creme de la creme : Caviar

Caviar is available in 21 major cities and markets and allows you to order items from a wide variety of restaurants quickly and efficiently. You can even order for pickup yourself.

You create an account; add your name, email, password and phone number. Share your location and it will find the restaurants near you. Add your address for delivery and then save it for any future order.

Caviar is well designed and easy to get around. The address field is on top so you can set your delivery location, time and skip a delivery fee if you make arrangements for your own pickup. Beneath is a search field for restaurants, which incorporates 20 unique cuisines. You can also scroll down to see technical skill restaurants serve your area.

You can browse all restaurants and perform a keyword search. You can choose restaurants by Staff Picks, free delivery, delivery under 30 minutes, trending dishes, can get a reservation, new, or healthy. There are sections organized around chicken, pizza or Thai.

Other competing apps focus more on fast food chains but Caviar is true to its name and includes fancy restaurants along with more affordable eateries.

One can browse all the photo driven menus from restaurants near you so you can see exactly what you're getting.

To order you can tap on any item or restaurant and add it to your cart. You can also add special requests such as any extra dressing. Then tap the view cart and you will see a breakdown of your bill, which includes a delivery fee based on travel time from the restaurant along with a service fee of 18%. You will need to add your credit card and you can even use Apple pay to complete the ordering process. And then tap the scheduled delivery order tab.

If you choose to allow push notifications you will get updates about your delivery. You can also track the location of your meal with real time GPS.

For Uber fans: UberEats

Now available in major cities around the world, UberEats for android and iOS will bring you the food that you're craving from grocery stores or restaurants. You sign up with your Uber account and the app will access your location and see any participating restaurants nearby.

This app is easy to navigate and defaults to fast food, chain and local restaurants near you that are available for delivery or pickup ASAP. You can scroll down and see the restaurants under headings such as, popular near you, new on UberEats and more restaurants from 70+ different cuisine categories that are divided by ethnicity, food category or diet restrictions.

You can search for specific eatery, or cuisine type in the top search bar if you already know what you want. You can tap on any option and you'll see the menu with its recommended items that include food photos and reviews to help you make a final decision.

Tap to add an item in your cart and then tap to view the cards and you will confirm your delivery address, and estimated delivery time and your final order price, which includes tax and delivery fee. The delivery fee is five dollars to start but goes up when UberEats gets busy. You can pay with your Uber account or add a credit card and you can track your meal with real-time tracking in the app.

For no added delivery fees: Grubhub

The Grubhub app can help you pick up from the restaurant or get delivery from any local restaurant and these include 50+ cuisines. To begin you just enter a delivery address and they will give you a list of restaurants that will deliver to you so you can see if it's worth signing up for the app before your even asked for all your personal information.

With this app you can search for an item that appeals to you, pick the restaurant and select from the menu. You can find restaurants with coupon discounts and each restaurant has the most popular items up top. You will find on the about tab the operating hours and reviews along with exclusive promos.

Grubhub doesn’t charge you for delivery and accepts credit cards, gift cards and payment such as Apple pay, PayPal and Venmo. Your last payment is saved automatically and can be use the next time you place an order.

For community-powered selections: Eat24

It is owned by Grubhub and powered by their engine and brings you food delivery or pick up from local fast food, fast casual or sit-down restaurants. There are 50 cuisine types to choose from so you can satisfy any craving or dietary restriction. Their exclusive promos and no unexpected delivery fees which makes this app very sweet.

If you don't know what to order you can read customers ratings and reviews. It is very similar to Grubhub.

For eating in and out: BeyondMenu

This app is available nationally with no added delivery fees. Available for android and iOS this app enables you to search restaurants, order pickup and delivery and make a reservation at any restaurant near you.

You can choose from thousands of restaurants with 40 different cuisine types. You can tap on any restaurant you will see the menu. Reviews from customers and coupons can help you decide.

BeyondMenu is easy as you simply add an item to your cart and then choose pickup or delivery. Your payment type can be a cash, credit card or Apple pay. You don't have to input your credit card info if you choose to pay by credit card as you can scan it in your phone's camera.

What's unique about this Is that it allows you to make reservations for a sit-down meal should you decide to eat out.

For 24/7 service: Postmates

You can place your order on the Postmate app on android and iOS and it is available in US cities in Mexico City and delivers directly to your doorstep for a fee. You can skip the delivery fee and order pickup.

This app provides access to your location and sign up with Facebook or an email address and password.

Unlike the others they deliver your restaurant meals from fast food or major chains or a hip local eatery but this service also delivers groceries, alcohol, gifts and more.

 You can search by collections that are organized with the newest restaurants, employee picks or what's available quickly. Add an item to your cart, tap it and then view order, confirm your address, as your payment and confirm your order.

This particular app partners with the finest local restaurants They will deliver as long as the restaurant or grocery store or liquor store is still open.

For all this convenience, Postmates charges $3.99 to $9.99 delivery fee. Often times there are great deals offered by the app to offset these pricey delivery fees.

You can subscribe to the Postmates Unlimited program for $9.99 a month and get all your orders over $20 with free delivery.

For the Big Apple: Seamless

Also owned by Grubhub, Seamless for android and iOs operates the same way and brings you delivery from the hottest chains in local restaurants. It has an easy search, exclusive promos, easy payment options and real-time order tracking and no added delivery fees. Unlike Grubhub and Eat24, Seamless only offers 25 cuisine types. If you already use the other two there is not much more incentive to use Seamless other than getting the first delivery free. Seamless is focused in New York City so use it if you're traveling there or live there.

For more than just food: Delivery.com

Delivery.com for android and iOS is available in hundreds of cities across the US. It will bring you restaurant orders, groceries and spirits an even wash and fold services or dry-cleaning from a local cleaner.

It was designed to make many of its offerings easy to navigate on the smallest of devices. Your address and delivery preference are on the top bar. It if you want to modify from delivery to pickup. Underneath you can switch for food, alcohol,

Groceries and laundry sections.

If you know what you're hungry for you can search for places, cuisines or dishes in the top search bar under food. But if you aren't sure they can suggest popular restaurants with 39 cuisines near you. You can toggle through the yelp ratings, which also helps you choose.
